Independence Diversity Movement #1
11/10/15
graphite, ink, watercolor on paper
The power of diversity was what gave the Korean people a fighting chance to free Korea from Japanese oppression; they had to learn how to empathize and cooperate with people of different backgrounds and find common ground through their struggles. This piece, which shows Japanese tourists happily posing in front of the Ryu Gwansun memorial in Seoul, is meant to show how empathy will foster true understanding between Japan and Korea today.
